Aroma applications
Basic recipes

Essential oils can be absorbed through the respiratory tract, the skin, the mucous membranes and through digestion. After just a few minutes, the fragrances are detectable in every organ.
Here you can learn how to use essential oils in the correct dosage.

Less is more!

Note that essential oils are highly concentrated substances with biochemical effect and read in the aromainfo database whether the desired essential oils are suitable for you at all! We are happy to support you in the selection of the appropriate essential oils and applications in our aroma practice.

Determine quality

When purchasing your essential oils, pay attention to the label! The following texts should definitely be stated on it:

  • “100% natural/genuine essential oil”
  • “suitable for aromatherapy”.
  • Expiration date/use-by date

We like to use products and empty containers of the Vorarlberg company feeling GmbH for our compositions.

    Correct selection

On this page you will learn about the dosage of essential oils. You can learn more about the selection of the right essential oils in our trainings and the aromainfo database.

    Procedures

    1. Goal setting: What do I want to accomplish?
    Example: treat cold symptoms

    2. Selection of the appropriate essential oils (at least 3: one fru-, one flo- and one ra-note) e.g. with the help of the aromainfo database.
    example: lemon, eucalyptus globulus, frankincense

    3. Selection of the appropriate application type (see below)
    Example: aroma foot bath

    4. Determination of the required total amount
Example: 12 drops + 1 cup of milk

    5. Mixing the essential oils in the ratio of FruFloRa, so that it smells pleasant and balanced, respectively has a holistic effect

    6. Carrying out the aroma application

    Applications via the respiratory tract

Public spaces such as offices, meeting rooms, sales rooms should be scented so low that the detectability threshold is not reached after about 5min, so that no one feels harassed, because there is no scent that everyone likes. The main thing is that the scent molecules are in the air and thus a clean, fresh atmosphere is created.

Private rooms can be scented in a way that suits you and your loved ones. However, please note that here, too, do not use fragrances that a family member can not tolerate or does not like. Also be careful with pets!

    Fragrance lamp

Dosage: 4 to 12 drops depending on the room size, air circulation and subjective assessment.

    Room Spray

Dosage for 100ml: mix 60 drops with 20ml alcohol (eg. 70% bio-ethanol or 40% vodka) and then fill up with 80ml hydrolate (or distilled water). Shake before use.

    Inhalation pens | Smell pens

These are familiar from the cold season – very practical for on the road or in between, when you have a “nose full”. Empty inhaler pens are available in essential oil stores. Simply give a total of 12-18 drops of the desired essential oils or fragrance composition on the cotton stick, screw, ready. Of course, mood-enhancing citrus oils, vanilla extract or flower oils can also be used – depending on your mood.

    Steam inhalation

To do this, fill hot water (not bubbling boiling!) in a bowl or pot, drip (max.) 1 drop of your mixture into it, put a cloth over your head that also encloses the bowl or pot, close your eyes and breathe deeply in and out for at least 10 (to 15) minutes.
CAUTION: Do not use on asthma patients!
CAUTION: risk of scalding for children and animals!
CAUTION is advised with burning, mucous membrane irritating or cooling oils (e.g. camphor, thyme, mint)!

    Electric scenting device

    Dosage: 2 to 12 drops
Here are the most different models. Please refer to the description on how to operate and fill the device. Please note that some electric scenting devices are designed for synthetic oils and the built-in membranes can break down more quickly when using natural oils. Tip: buy your scenting devices from selected essential oil retailers.

    Dry Inhalation

Put 2-3 drops of a fragrance mixture on a handkerchief (or rub them on the palms of your hands, if necessary) and inhale the scents. This type of application is beneficial for colds as well as for various psychological, mental and physical conditions such as weakness attacks, stress or anxiety.

    Diffus sticks

You will need a container with about 100ml capacity (narrow opening, just enough to fit a few sticks). In it, put about 160 tr. of essential oils (preferably mixed according to FruFloRa), 4 ml of glycerin and 60 ml of 96% alcohol (spirit of wine). After mixing the oils with the glycerin and alcohol, add 3-5 bamboo sticks (diffuser sticks) to the vessel. This method of application is also very popular in toilets, among other places. Nevertheless, it should be mentioned that the natural scents “open” in the air already oxidize after a few days and lose their delicate fragrance.

    Applications via the skin

    Massage

Adults: for full body and facial massages, add a total of 2 drops of essential oils to 10ml of fatty oil (equivalent to about 1/2 egg cup or decanter). For partial applications (e.g. foot reflexology oils, firming oils) use 6 drops of essential oils to 10ml of fatty oil (e.g. St. John’s wort macerate, jojoba, almond oil sweet).

Aroma bath | full bath or foot bath

Dosage: 12 drops of an oil (or a mixture). Mix the oils beforehand with honey, cream, milk, sea salt or even liquid soap and add this mixture to the ready-soaked bathtub. Of course, you can also mix the essential oils with a fatty oil (1 tablespoon per oil bath is enough). The application in the form of a foot bath follows the same principle (also the same dosage as in a full bath). An aroma bath should last about 20-30 min.

Scented roll-on for wrists, forehead or neck

For a 10ml roll-on, add 25 drops of the desired fragrance composition to the empty container and fill up with 70% bioethanol or with jojoba.

    Aroma shower

Apply 1 ml of a 3% mixture all over the body on still wet skin after showering. TIP: alternatively, for cold symptoms or jet lag, use 10 drops of the following essential oils neat: Cajeput, Niaouli, Rosemary ct. Cineol.

    Compresses & Wraps

Dosage: add about 12-18 drops to 2 l of water in a small bowl of water. Then dip a cloth or washcloth into the fragrant water, wring out and place on the affected part of the body. An emulsifier is usually not necessary, but it is still beneficial if you mix the essential oils with 1 tablespoon of salt beforehand. Depending on whether you use warm (trunk area; inflammations) or cold water (extremities, headaches) for the compress: when the washcloth has reached body temperature, dip it again into the water-oil mixture and then place it again on the body part to be treated. Repeat this procedure 10 to 15 times.

    Applications through the mucous membranes

Aroma tampons | Aroma panty liners

To do this, drip 1-2 drops of the desired oil (e.g. lavender fine for menstrual pain) or the required composition (e.g. for vaginal fungus) onto the tampon or panty liner. Change several times a day. CAUTION: do not use oils that irritate the skin or mucous membranes (see: aromainfo database).

    Mouthwash

Mix 30 drops with 10ml of alcohol (e.g., ethyl alcohol, 70% bio-ethanol), shake before use, add 2-4 tr. of this mixture to the toothbrush water and gargle with it.

    Mouth spray

Dosage for 30ml: mix 24 drops with 5ml alcohol (eg. 70% bio-ethanol or 40% vodka) and then fill up with 15ml hydrolate (or distilled water). Shake before use.

    Suppositories

Melt 25g cocoa butter, add 12 drops of essential oils, fill into molds or let cool and mold yourself

    aromuli

dissolve 3-6 pcs. in the mouth at least 5 times a day

    Applications via the digestive tract

    Aroma wellness drinks

Mix 1 drop of the desired essential oil (e.g. frankincense or thyme ct. linalool) with 1 teaspoon of honey or sugar and add 250ml (lukewarm) water, stir well and drink quickly.

    Aroma refreshment drinks

Mix 1 drop of the desired essential oil (e.g. lemon, peppermint) with 1 teaspoon of honey or sugar and add 1 liter of (cold) water, stir well and drink quickly.

    Seasoning salts, sugars & oils

To 200g of salt, sugar or 200ml of oil, add 6 drops of essential oils, as they are very intense. If it is too little for you, you can add a little more after tasting. Alternatively, hydrolates are very good for seasoning food (e.g. spray rosemary hydrolate over baked potatoes).

    aromuli

Add 6-12 pcs. to a drink or use to season food (see recipes for individual aromuli).
